2004 E350 Recall for computer reprogramming

I happened to register our used Ford MH with FoMoCo a while back. Now I have received a recall notice:

Your vehicle may be equipped with an improperly functioning on-board emission related diagnostic system. A power train calibration flaw is present that may prevent the on board diagnostic system Catwlyst Monitor from achieving a "Ready" condition. There is no perceivable impact on vehicle operation. However, the vehicle may not be able to complete emission certification requirements in some provinces. Certain provinces may not renew vehicle registrations.

Ford has authorized your dealer to reprogram the power train control monitor free of charge (parts and labour). You are eligible for this free service even if you previously used non-Ford parts or a non.-Ford dealer. Emission Recall 15E06

So, does this sound worth spending half a day waiting at a Ford dealer an hour away from home? Likelihood of the dealer insisting on doing some other work? It hasn't been to a garage in the 7 years we've owned it but I probably will take it to a local garage for transmission fluid and coolant replacement in 2016.
  • I wouldn't worry about it unless you are in an emissions testing area and are coming up due. If your rig doesn't get tested, there's no need to have the update done. One note however.... If you go to a shop to get other work done, they may want to diagnose the P1000 code which will pop up. Simply decline that, as that is the code that the recall will fix. It's simple an emissions test readiness code, which is suppose to prevent owners from resting their check engine light before testing.
