2005 F-450 V10 Issues

Looking at a 2005 Fleetwood Tioga 31M with 26K. Looking at the paperwork, in 2009 we saw a bill for over 8K. It was diagnosed as three pistons being damaged. The entire engine was removed. Weighing pros and cons of such engine work. The engine work was done at about 13K miles so about another 13K were put on since 2009.

Does the bill say what was done?

Some of the photos I took of the bill got cut off but here is what I got:

    - Vehicle acts like it is choking. Compression Test-#2 Cylinder Low - Remove right valve cover to inspect for broken valve springs-Ok. Removed Engine and Disassembled. Found #2, 4, and 10 pistons damaged. Installed Long block and road tested heard noise from converter.

Bill was a little over $7500. Parts were listed at $4775, labor $2125, sublet repairs $240 plus some misc stuff.
  • If only repairs were done with motor such as the 3 pistons as you say I would not buy that RV, now if the motor was completely replaced than it would be OK, repair shops many times don't do a great job when rebuilding a motor.
  • Pretty hard to cause that kind of damage in the V10, short of driving through flood waters deep enough to suck water. But that intake is pretty high, and water would be coming into the coach first. The PCM limits RPMs well short of the mechanical limitations of that motor, and also prevents over-revving when downshifting. 8K should buy a full new motor from Ford. Remains are only $2,2200 and R & R labor is about 20 hours.
