2006 Winnebago Outlook Slider motor

2nd outing in the outlook and the slide motor completely failed, to send it out without pushing it, which I quit after a few inches, and needed pushed back in. I hear the motor turning, but making a clicking noise.

Since under warranty I took it in and they tell me that the motor and actuator have failed and the part is $2000! That seems insane! They said about 5 hours labor to replace! They are checking if it is covered by the warranty?

First of all, why wouldn't it be covered by the warranty? What are they worried about?

2nd, $2000 for a motor/actuator assembly? That doesn't seem reasonable. Are they trying to rip me or the warranty company off?

  • Most extended warranty/insurance companies require approval before a repair is allowed. May take a day or 2 for this to happen.
  • Does anyone know if this is a common problem on this model / approximate year? Is there any sage wisdom to help prevent it from happening again while they are in doing a $2K repair. I.E. This repair costs $2K but for $2.5K you can go to the new improved one in the next model year that fixes the issue.....
  • On our 06 Outlook, the shaft on the motor failed, actually split the length of the shaft (living room slide). This happened the first year we had the unit.
The cost of the warranty repair in 07 or 08 was about $2000. 1200+/- for the motor/actuator/shaft and the remaining in labour, about 6 hours.
On ours the motor still worked, but was not connected the to slide-out. Even the manual crank would not work, but we were able to push the slide in, and then secured with come-a-long straps.

  • That sounds very similar too our issue. Any more issues withit after the repair?
  • No issues since, tech initially thought it was a shear pin, but after working on it found they had to replace the entire assembly, come back next week please. They said that they had never seen a failure like that.

  • A 2006 is out of warranty, but you probably have a service contract on it. Not the same thing. The term "Extended Warranty" is meaningless unless it is the manufacturer who issues it. Service contracts DO have a long list of not covered repairs, so it is feasible that it may not be covered. Prior approval, even of covered repairs, is required whether it was warrantied by the maker, or covered by a service contract.
