2006 with High Mileage -- Good or Bad?

Looking at buying a used 2006 Class A MH. It has 65,000 miles on the odometer.

I have only seen photos to this point, but it seems to be well taken care of by the original owner who is the one selling it.

I have been told that it is taken from Canada to Florida twice a year.

Obviously, compared to the other 2006's that I see out there -- some with less than 15,000 miles -- this unit has been used for its intended purpose and has not been allowed to just sit and rot somewhere.

On the other hand... 65,000 miles is 65,000 miles (granted mostly highway).

Provided everything else checks out (I intend to have it inspected by an RV mechanic before the sale), is this something that I should be afraid of?

Thanks!
Chris
  • That's only 8,000 miles per year. Hardly a lot of miles. It's nothing for a modern drivetrain (gas or diesel) to hit 200-250,000 miles.

I would take that over a similar rig that is only averaging 2,000 miles per year.

Nothing worse in my mind for a drivetrain then to just sit and rot (likewise for the other mechanical systems)
  • I don't see a problem at all with the miles. As long as it was maintained with oil/filter changes on time, the engine is barely broke in.

Our coach looks almost new with 68,500 miles as I take excellent care of it (and I'm not just saying that because it's mine).

Time and time again I will read here where a coach 5-10 yrs. old has very low mileage the mechanics that chime in say a diesel needs to be run. On the Nada website, it says if it's a diesel, don't enter the mileage (at least it used to).

  • Is it a gas or diesel motorhome? That doesn't sound like real high mileage to me. We just traded a 2005 diesel with 95,000 miles on it. Still ran like new!

  • Sorry... I didn't make that clear. No.. I don't believe it was lived in long term. It is a family of four that lives in Canada that takes two trips a year to Florida.

    Hope that clarifies.

  • The miles aren't really a big concern but it sounds like it was used to live in for MONTHS at a time in Florida and possibly in Canada also. This means there was also a lot of use of the various systems, appliances, and furniture. Not quite the same as someone that took long trips for two weeks or so, to rack up the same mileage, but that means a lot less use of the interior components.
