2008 Itasca Suncruiser Paint Failing

The painted finishes on the MH are failing.

First the clear coat at the roof sidewall junction has begun to lift from the painted surface leaving large blistered patches.

Then the edges of the exterior storage compartment doors are now showing primer through the painted finish.

Now there are places in the sidewall painted surfaces where the finish has thinned, and the primer is beginning to show in small pin-head sized areas.

I've been careful with maintaining the exterior of the MH, using Maguire's Gold, soft brushes, micro-fiber cloths, and lots of water. We live in the Pacific NW, so sun and UV issues are mostly not an issue.

Any thoughts about how to repair or do I need to completely repaint?

They did have one many years ago. They did not sell well. 1994 Airstream Class A

  • Thanks, I think. . . you're all telling me similar things, that I need to pony up and pay up, which I knew.

My body shop friend suggested that I could try the rattle-can fix for the clear coat failure, but I am apprehensive, and it doesn't address the other issues.
  • Many manufacturers had same problem. For sNs had the same problem on our Newmar. About three years ago Newmar had a special price of $1200 to repar/repaint the roof radius. I took Newmar up on the price as best I got from an independent shop was $3000.
  • With the failures I've been seeing, it isn't related to just one manufacturer. Ours for the most part is just the upper surround around the roof line. Sure it's 12 years old but it's been painted before and still is not right. It's a shame on the newer rigs for what a full body paint job costs to have to put up with this. I'm checking with a local body shop that paints buses and semi's to see what they will charge. Maybe just maybe they will get it right.
  • Yep!
Get out your check and expect at least 3 0's when done

I just had the entire side and rear cap repainted and 4 coats of clear.. $13k

This was all sun damage on a lousy paint and clear ( You listening Winnebago? ). In your case it doesn't matter, but the fix is all the same
