You're obviously a newness type buyer and I'm the complete opposite, so having said that, have you considered spending the same budget money for a known and accepted higher end unit and just drop back for however many years it takes to fit your pocketbook?
IMO and as an engineer myself, I can tell you that if the quality of engineering is right, it will remain right and if it's wrong, it will be remain wrong from day one. This may be putting it a bit harshly, but most sure you get the picture.
