36' gasser towing a 4600 pound mini van

Towed a Town & Country with my 97 F53 with no issues, remco. Now tow a Grand Caravan with my 06 F-53 with no issues, remco. You won't have any problems.

As said many times before, the V10, the 7.4, the 8.1 or any other comparable MH engine is the least of any towing concerns. The tranny could be on long 6% grades though, but doubt seriously if you'll ever have a problem with the ford in question.

We did something very similar - Towed a 4600 lb Kia Sedona minivan behind our 36' 2012 Georgetown Motorhome (see signature) for 'bout a year before we got another toad vehicle. Only major difference is that our MH has the newer more powerful 362 HP V10. Ours handled the van just fine when we towed it, I never had any complaints as far as towing power was concerned.

Anyway, your new (to you) Southwind with the 310 HP V10 will handle the van just fine. You won't win any races going up through mountain passes, but it will handle it OK.

Which mini van are we talking about? There aren't many mini vans that can be towed 4 down without some modifications. Or, were you planning on using a dolly?

I tow the truck in my sig. with the motorhome in my sig.
I have towed it over Marias Pass on U.S. Highway 2, no problem.
I have towed it over Homestake Pass on I-90, no problem.
I have towed it over Monida Pass on I-15, no problem.
No, I don't know what it weighs. Nor do I care. It works, that is all that matters to me.

Just don't forget to include the weight of the towing hardware and whatever you put in the van. Our '03 Sedona had a catalog empty weight of 4800 lb and couldn't be modified for 4-down without getting very close to the hitch limit of 5000. A dolly would also have taken the combination over the 5000 lb limit.

We planned our trips so we didn't need a toad, staying mainly one night per stop and doing our sightseeing en route, even if we only drove 75 miles some days.

FYI '06 Liberty 4x4 weighs 3655#, that's my toad behind a V10.

I towed a Hybrid Fusion(about 4200 lbs) through the Rockies not fast but got from point A to B

It can be done but make sure your e-flashers work because you will be down to less than 40 mph on 6% or better grades.

Thanks guys. I'm all up to speed on vehicle loading and towing capacities, having owned 4 other motorhomes. I was just curious about the performance of the motorhome when loaded to near full capacity.
