Yep.

There are places where you can buy the cooling units exchange if you're up for the project.

Knowing Make and Model of Fridge is important to determine if there are parts, and if it's worth fixing.

Ammonia is the refrigerant in these fridges, so smelling of ammonia is proof of a leak. As everybody else has said, that's why it won't work.

While the newer fridges do need 12V to operate, not all of the older ones did. With a pilot, there's a good chance that this fridge did not require 12V power (and quite possibly has no 12V connections of any sort). That's all kind of moot if you're going to be replacing the fridge or at least its guts.

There are lots of places that sell rebuilt cooling units. Usually about half the price of a new box. That still isn't cheap, but it beats new.

Nothing on floor in fridge cabinet.

Checking today. Yesterday fridge got hot in freezer and smelled like amonia. Turn fridge upside down? Previous owner of rv said.? Not sure.
