98 34' Allegro - Chevrolet - Brakes

Hank I'm not going to argue with you, I just don't see how the shift lever on the steering column can activate a drum brake with such ease. And if it does, why have the parking brake lever and the transmission shift lever doing the same job?

I can be a smart a## at times and a know it all at others but not in this case. How does the shift lever activate the drum brake? I really would like to know.

You said it will roll even with the shift lever in park, correct? I think it may be more than an adjustment. I haven't looked inside a transmission for decades, so things must have changed but in my 55 Merc, there was a pawl that locked the trans when in park. I don't know how it worked in '98 but I don't think that it part of the parking brake.

No pawl, has a drive line brake, a drum brake attached to rear of trans.

Yes, on the back of transmission.
Cable could have broken loose.

No actually I have not. Seemed like such a sudden thing I didn't think about it. You are talking about the drum brakes on the transmission correct? I'll check it out. Thanks for the reply!
