A and E awning, left side won't release

The left side of my awning won't release. I checked to see if it is hanging up on the top bracket but it doesn't seem to be. Does the release lever on the right also release something on the left?
The safety brackets are open. I can jiggle it. If I pull the awning out about a foot, ( right side only) I can give the left a few good tugs with the pole it releases.
Any thoughts?
