A small class C I saw in Scotland

I saw this small C in Scotland last week.

  • I kinda like the layout of the nu surf. It's an interesting alternative to class Bs. It looks like it could work for one or two people. Why are most small Cs sold in the US designed to sleep 4+ people? It seems like they could make better use of the limited space if they got rid of the dedicated bed and slept a maximum of two people.
  • "The Sunlight" almost definitely is on a Fiat Ducato or Citroen Boxer chassis. The handles, doors, and mirrors are the giveaway.

If someone made a short C on either of those platforms in the US, and I'm meaning a -short- c (18 feet or less) with items like a drop down bed to further use space, it might be a cult hit, similar to the Westies.
  • Quite a few like that in Europe based on the older Ford Transit chassis.
The "The Sunlight" looks like it is based on a Fiat chassis
  • This is the unit we rented in Germany a few years ago.
Renting an RV can make a European trip even more fun.
Ford Transit Van with four cylinder diesel motor, 6 speed manual transmission = about 20 mpg. A very good thing with European priced fuel.
  • It really depends on person. The small "C" (NuVenture's NuSurf) would be nice. That model has two facing couches which can be made into two beds, or one large transverse bed. For something that can be parked almost anywhere, it would be useful (especially day or weekend trips). Of course, for more than two people, that rig would just not work, period.
  • Almost all will be on singles, the structure of vehicle licensing and taxing in most countries encourages RV buyers to stay under 3500 KG (less than a 3/4 passenger vehicle here). At 3500 KG dual wheels are not necessary.

The other limit they are working against is 7 meters length, so that the Sunlight shown is near what would be "large" in that driving and camping environment.
  • What does the home-made box, adding two feet to overall length, tell you about short rigs? The longer rig has a more storage and living space. I always advise newbies to think twice about buying short vs medium-length rigs. Short rigs and van conversions are probably more practical accross the pond.

I saw this in Norway last month... still on single rear tires and about as "BIG" as you can rent. Diesel, front wheel drive, manual tranny.
