This topic kind of ties into one already started 8.3 Overheating but has to do with the A/C condenser.I have discovered that the electric fan on the A/C condenser does not come on when the dash A/C is turned on. In a car this fan would come on as soon as the a/c is turned on, should that also happen in this motor home (1997 America Dream).Before I start checking would like to know if that is how it should work.If so the first thing I would check is, is there power at the plug, then I would hot wire the fan to make sure it is working, if it is the solenoid I would love it if someone could take a picture and describe it's location.Should the fan be lowing into the condenser coil or sucking air out (not fighting the Motor Home fan)Just a note, this may be another example of incompetent RV Service center repairs. At the beginning of the season I took it to Caledoina RV because the A/C was not blowing cold. They charged the system and pronounced all was well. On the next trip it did not work until we hit a big bump, and then it did work. It has worked off and on again ever since. It was taken back, but they stated all was well.

works off and on,I,d check the wiring to that fan, and in my opinion the fan should come on when you turn the air on, ac working hints a loose wire.

Mine comes on the minute I turn the A/C on.

I'm going to look that this in the morning, what would really help is if any one knows the location of the fuse, and the reply for the fan?

You might have to follow the wiring to find any relays. Or call Fleetwood. You could use a switch and turn on the fan when you want it on. Then as you get near a mountain pass, you can turn it on early. It would save a lot of searching around just to install a new switch and #10 wire to the fan, along with a 30 amp fuse. If you don't want to run a lot of new wiring, then a #14 wire from the dash area to a new fog lamp relay (30 amps +) and then the larger wire from the battery to new relay to the fan. This will also provide more voltage to the fan, due to shorter wire run. Include a 30 amp auto re-set circuit breaker, and measure the amp draw if you can. it might take more than 30 amps?Sears used to sell a clamp on AC/DC meter. Most clamp on amp meters only measure AC amperage, but this one was a reasonably priced $90 meter that measures DC amperage just by clamping it around the wire, no need to cut into the circuit. To the hand, yes, will be going on a trip tomorrow and will have a better answer. What was happening is it would blow cold then get warm then blow cold again.

Ok...here we go.

You have seen the earlier diagnostics that I did.

Fleetwood was unable to get me the correct diagram, but the customer service at Gillig came through.

With the correct diagram in hand, I found the correct circuit breaker for the A/C circuit and found it had been replaced with an aftermarket one with no indication if it was tripped. I tested it and found it was good. The correct one has been ordered from Gillig.

The relay labeled HVAC on the Motor Home is the A/C fan relay in the print. I found that the HVAC relay had been "played" with and the case was broken. I removed the relay and checked the hot lead and coil lead and found them to be hot. I jumpier the two contact leads and the fan ran.

I ran to the parts store an picked up a universal A/C relay and plugged it in and all works as it should fan on when A/C is on, fan off when A/C is off.

The correct one has been ordered from Gillig.

The spot that the relay goes is tight.

I snapped the relay into place and this will work for now, until I get the correct parts.

First response from Gillig was the same print,

Glenn, it looks as though the only relay we provide is the first one on the left side. You can also see a circuit breaker for A.C. is the fourth one down on the right. See attached drawing.

I wish I could attaché the print.

New Fleetwood response.

You are looking at the GILLIG rear panel and the FLEETWOOD Battery control center.
The Gillig panel is the top panel.You really need assistance from
someone who knows Gillig chassis. They can be reached at 800-735-1500.
The print we have is the only info on Gillig we have. We normally don't have prints on chassis items but sometimes we get them and keep them for the future. Give them a call.

I received a print from Fleetwood (print is for 93-96, I have a 97)

The prints for the Gillig chassis electrical are attached. The dash AC has an automotive breaker in the front chassispanel.The rear panel has the AC relay andoutput to the ACcondenser fan motor.Hope this helps Thank you AMERICAN COACH SERVICE

Glenn I don't know if this will help or not but I have a P-30 chassis with an Evans tempcon system and there are two things that control the fan. One is a temp sensor in one of the heads and when it reaches a set temperature the fan s comes on. The other is a small pressure switch with three leads going to the switch sometimes referred to as a trinary switch. One of the leads comes from the A/C. When mine was leaking it would not blow cold air. I changed the switch and recharged and all was well again.

You did a good job at narrowing down the issue, like making sure the fan is good. Hopefully someone can tell you what triggers that fan.

You are correct.

The belt was "professionally Installed" by Conway Truck and Bus, yet another example of why if you want it done right you need to do it yourself, no mater how much of a struggle it is..
