Here is an outlet tester to check the power at a campsite. Unfortunately, the 30 Amp outlet is different from the usual household outlet so you also need an adapter.
I can't really suggest a multimeter. There are many available for a wide range of prices, but without the knowledge it may not be wise to start using one ??????
If you go to eBay, Amazon, Sears, etc and google Multimeter, you will find lots of them for a wide range of prices. I think I paid less than $10 for the one I use most of the time.
