What is the model # of that unit and you feel it really makes a difference? and thanks ahead of time for the advice.

I've used units like A/C unit these to help dehumidify houses before the HVAC is hooked up. Think you could put it by the front windshield/driver seat, and run the little 4" exhaust hose through the drivers window. They are sold at Lowe's and HomeDepot so easy to find them. Have also used them a a supplement to a whole house system in the summer in Colorado -- sure helped.

Nice thing is they are so easy to hook up.

I live in South Florida with a similar heat problem. I have 2 12500 roof units also. By mid afternoon they could not keep up with the heat. My culprit was the front windshield. It faces West in our RV park. I use to have a 5th wheel on that lot and it didn't make much of a difference, however the windshield became a radiator. The drapes on these new units are pleated and only diffuse light, not block it out altogether. I purchase silver bubble shield from Camping World and cut it to the dimensions of my windshield. I used velcro to hold it on and then put my solid vinyl windshield cover over it. It works. Not 100 percent, but the coach is bearable while the sun is baking in. Most people are not aware of the power of the sun in the sunbelt. I could easily add another 8,000 a/c unit, just to take some of the strain off the roof a/c's. I saw some coaches that have 3 rooftops. I really believe that just as they have winter packages on a lot of these coaches, there should be sunbelt packages. I think is is crazy that my coach, which was sold to me new by a Florida dealer, has roof vents with clear plastic caps. I have a clear skylight over the shower. There should be an extra 4" of insulation in the roof and double pane tinted glass all the way around. The pleated window shades should be pleated cell shades for extra insulation from the severe sunlight. So, I guess I feel your pain. Hope you stay cool!!!

Over the winter I installed a 3rd roof mount 15k unit with heat pump in the hole where the kitchen vent was. wired it separately and out of the way. Now no worries when temps get hot.

Have you considered a portable air conditioner? I'd be concerened about the window frames holding up all that weight of a window unit. Portable A/C sits on the floor and just "blows out" the window for exhaust. They work really well.

I have a 12,000 btu LG portable that I've used two seasons as an emergency A/C for some townhomes I own. It has worked very well. A friend used it for two weeks last summer, daily temps were 100+. He had to replace his central H/A unit, and while waiting for parts he used my LG. It kept his living/kitchen area cool.
I found mine on Craigslist for less than $200, so it's worth the money. But, I have heard some folks haven't had good luck with portables. It is easy to hook up, and where the vent goes into a window opening I use a piece of coroplast to fit the opening and then cut my vent opening, duct tape in place for the temporary use.

This is why we've decided to stay with our highly insulated brand of 5er rather than switch to a MH.

We have 2 AC's, 15k & 13.5k. With the addition of table fans, insulated dual cell shades and lined curtains, we managed to live in San Antonio through all of last July, then we moved to Augusta, GA's high humidity and 100 degrees in the full sun for the rest of the summer. I can keep the 5er 22 degs cooler than the outside temp.

While in SA, we had both AC's serviced by a Mobile Tech and they worked even better. He called it boiling and show DH the before and after photos. Small price to pay for comfort since I'm home all day while DH is at work.

Last summer in 90 degree heat in a very small wood structure sitting in a parking lot in the sun, in Michigan, the portable AC did hardly anything to cool. Running full blast all the time reduced the temp from 105 to 98. Not much help. I personally do not think they are very efficient. If it can't handle MI, then it won't handle TX.

If you get a portable, make sure you get a 2 hose model!! The 2 hose type uses outside air to cool the condenser...the 1 hose types use INSIDE air to cool the condenser and that air has to be replaced with hot, humid outside air.

living in Texas I battle the summer heat. I have found putting insulation on the front windows and 2 small fans to circulate the air keep the coach pleasant. Covering the front windows makes a huge difference.
