Access to cord reel on Monaco

I have a 2009 Monaco Camelot PDQ, the Progressive surge protector is showing low voltage on line 1 when connected to shore power, with generator running everything is fine. The fellas at Progressive think it is a problem with the electric cord reel. My question is can you access the cord reel from the bedroom closet or do you find a way in through the engine compartment. Thanks for any suggestions

  • srx-6, when my Progressive Surge Guard went south, it showed no voltage on line 2 but the incoming power was fine. Had to replace the 6 year old surge guard and now all is well.
  • BigSkyBob-I have plugged in to several different pedestals 50amp 30amp and 15 amp(15 amp is at storage facility) all show low voltage on line one. When I start the generator everything works fine.
  • srx-6, On second thought, if I understand your issue correctly, if your surge guard is showing a low voltage on line 1 that's the incoming voltage from the pedestal and will display a low voltage even with the shore line disconnected. Perhaps you should check that first.
  • srx-6, on my 08 Camelot 40 PDQ the cord reel junction box can be accessed from the engine compartment. You have to take the air duct loose from the air cleaner to be able to take the cover off the junction box. My guess is you have a loose connection in that box. The box serves as a junction between the pigtail of the shore line cord and the line to the transfer switch toward the front of the coach.
  • Thanks fellas. The cord reel is a Shoreline model# CC50D(from build sheet). I replaced the Iota switch last year with a Surge Guard model 41260. I have checked the connections in the transfer switch and the EMS unit, all are tight. I am hoping there is a loose connection at the cord reel, just trying to figure out how to gain access, there is very little room to reach in the door on the outside of the coach.
  • Mine had the infamous IOTA transfer box which was on recall but Navistar would not recall it due to the bankruptcy...that IOTA transfer switch if you have it is an accident waiting to happen..If you have the IOTA transfer switch (search on the recall and you will learn a lot)...that's the culprit, the bus bars corrode..and loosen up themselves...replace it, otherwise what Executive said. I don't know if yours has the IOTA switch but my 2009 Endeavor did...I got it just in time before it fried itself on the road.
  • JB, what is the model number of the cord reel? Should be on your build sheet if you can't see it on the canister. If you don't have the build sheet, call Monaco with your coach number or last 6 of your VIN and they'll email it to you. Good to have for a number of things. If yours is like mine you can access the canister through the electrical compartment. There's a short cord that runs from the canister to the transfer switch. Personally, I'd start at the transfer switch and work backwards. I'm guessing you have a loose wire inside the box. Remove the lid, after making sure everything is disconnected and tighten all the wiring inside the transfer switch box. I think you'll find one of them is loose......Dennis
