Adding batteries to Thor Majestic 23A

Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone added extra batteries to an ex-rental unit?

The RV has a small tray only good for 1 battery. So I am wondering what the best way to add more batteries.

Thanks

  • AGMs in a storage area would work. Expensive however. If you do this use big wire and box them in.
  • Yes, link above provides very good info on X rentals, if you haven't read it yet. If you can't find anything that you like, check out the link below. While I like the concept I refuse to pay what they want for basically a battery holder. We start genny when battery gets low. Which is very seldom. If we stay'd longer at a place then I would add another battery. But for now 1 battery is good enough for us.

  • Yeah I needed more battery power then just the one underneath. mine is a 2004 ca 23a. I ended up with another 125ah under the bed for a 250ah total with 400watt solar system.

The key to adding another battery is to find the convertor fuse panel mine had an isolater near by thats where you can tap into the other battery under the coach.

I had enough room to add a 3000 watt xantrax invertor tapped directly into one of the main breakers that run my tv bluray entertainment system and some not all outlets for charging and other low amp use outlets. The isolater uses the outside battery to be included although it should be much closer to the indoor battery but it works good.

Must use agm only inside the coach. I boondock exclusively and always have more power then i can use except in winter camping.

Genny only comes on for light ac use to cool down and convection oven for some cooking never to charge the batteries i disconnected the. Convertor dont need it anymore.
  • I have the same issue with my 2008 23a CA ex-rental. I still use one 125ah battery BUT I also added 360w of solar and that has been a major game changer for the better. That said, we have low power needs. No TV, mostly weekend warriors, etc... and I converted every single light to LED. The only time we have issues now with power is when we winter dry camp at altitude. Two days in Yosemite in the winter (November, not Feb.) and I have to turn on the genny OR just swap the battery for another one. Those Wal Mart RV Batteries have worked well for us and are only about $100 each. Takes two minutes to swap out.
  • I will check out the rental thread. Wow 42 pages and counting.

The hidden power looks like it will work perfect for what I want.

    Thank you all
