Advice on correct carb for 1988 P30 (CA emissions)

I started work on my 1988 Airstream 290 yesterday to get it ready for CA smog testing. When I pulled off my air filter housing there was an Edelbrock 1406 instead of a Quadrajet (ugh).

I'm now trying to track down a replacement Rochester Quadrajet - anyone know the correct OEM model for a 1988 CA-emissions P30? M4ME? E4MEF?

Even better - anyone have an Edelbrock 1906 they want to sell me :)
  • They run emissions testing that includes a visual inspection on 25 year old motorhomes? Wow.

I guess one point for Illinois. They test nothing older than 96. And the test on 96 and newer is an ODB2 scan only. And no testing on trucks or motorhomes.
  • R4M4ME/C9698. $300.00 + $80.00 core at one well known source. I would move now. These carbs are not getting any easier to find. About 4 years ago I was looking for one for a customer and no one had any cores to rebuild. This included Holly who were heavily invested in the reman market for CA emissions at that time. I see that they no longer offer remans that are not Holleys.

  • Maybe this can be a starting place for you at Rockauto.com $380.00 And this PDF might not help much without the original carb, but at least you can see the models.
