air compressors

This Porter Cable CMB-15 has been my favorite since we got it for our 5th wheel. I kept it because it does 150 psi, whereas our on-board air stops at 110 psi.

Regardless of what you get, compare CFM! You can sure waste a lot of time waiting for your compressor to recharge the tank if is is a low flow. If I remember, this Porter Cable recharges from 0 in about 30 seconds with it's 2.0 SCFM.

I had a big Ridgid contractor type compressor which really did the job, but it was just too heavy to lug around and needed to be tilted to get it into the basement. I sold it on CL and got enough to buy a new Porter Cable pancake. It was the best of the big box brands at the time. Works great, but it does cycle a lot.

Just another option for you to look at. It's what I carry.

I have a small 175 PSI compressor I keep at my storage location, but I don't carry it on the road. I have a 12 volt compressor that is designed for Truckers that I bought at a truck stop. It has to be clipped directly to the battery (I have used the toad battery) and it will go up to 200 psi. But it does take a long time if the pressure is way down. I think I've only used it twice and one time I had a nail in the tire. So I pumped it up enough to get me to a tire shop to fix it.

The Viair 400P-RV is $202.00 on eBay. About twice the price of a pancake compressor, and is only 12v with a 30a draw. It's mandatory to have the engine running to use it, so it seems more practical to use a 110v compressor either from the genset or from the inverter.

I've always "topped" off my tires using it without starting the vehicle. Not much amperage or battery draw happens in that case. Yes it's 12 volt, and can be used anywhere one doesn't have a generator or power hookup. It fits neatly in many places a much larger and heavier unit won't, without compromising much space. Actually ours is in the toad 24/7, just in case I need to fill my tire or do a road side repair on my or another motorist vehicle anytime anywhere. It's not just dedicated to the MH.

It'll do everything the larger units will, albeit slower. But We have it everywhere we go and Have no power limitations .

The Viair 400P-RV is $202.00 on eBay. About twice the price of a pancake compressor, and is only 12v with a 30a draw. It's mandatory to have the engine running to use it, so it seems more practical to use a 110v compressor either from the genset or from the inverter.

Also picks up the motor home with the help of a 12 ton air/hydraulic botttle jack from Harbor Freight. Runs the air wrenches, and other tools..

But it does take multiple tanks of air for most jobs.

I just sold my Viair 400P-RV (takes too long to top off 125psi tires) and bought a 6 Gal DeWalt Pancake 165psi. DeWalt is cheaper also.

They aren't cheap. But extremely portable and will fill anything. Top off ours all the time. Used for many years. Buildt very well. Can use the toad battery or MH battery to run it.

That's the brand I use. Probably 15 years old and filled countless tires.
