Air horns

I have a 1989 Fleetwood/Bounder that I am in the process of restoring. It has a little horn that sounds like it belongs to a volkswagen bug. I would like to put something on the RV that would alert others. I do not want to be obnoxious in the sound. Would a train horn be obnoxious. Anyway, just trying to be safe out there with the ability of alerting other drivers.
Looking for any comments about RV horns.
Respectfully,

Ken
  • Have a pair of fire truck Horton Emergency air horns, but too loud for normal use, so keep them in garage with their mounting supports.

    Ship horns

I think you're definitely going to win the battle of the air horns. :)
How much air does it take to operate them?

You're from CT? I find that hard for believe. ;)
  • I bought a set of Hadley's to go on the roof of my gasser. Also bought the kit from JC Whitney, comes with compressor, tanks, solinoid valve and tubing to supply air to horns. They are as loud as a trailer truck. I really like them, they operate off the reg horn button.
  • I run a WOLO "bad boy" electric (available at auto zone, etc) AND a set of train horns.
the Wolo electric is activated by the button in the steering wheel & the air horns are on a cable.

some times more (horn) is necessary.
  • IMHO, the JCW air horns sound like a coffee truck. I got a Bad Boy electric horn from Wolo

Plenty loud, and it comes with a "This vehicle equipped with a Bad Boy" sticker.
  • JcWhitney.com used to sell a electric horn kit that was programmable for several sound. Don't like one sound? Try another. The advantage is you probably can power it through the normal steering wheel horn button.

It would be a simple install, just find the factory horn, and disconnect the input wire, connect to the new horn system. It would have a speaker and control box with a switch inside to control several sounds. Probably cover the horn with a pillow or something to not annoy the neighbors while programming it!
