I would not just patch it. My son successfully patched his garage air compressor tank but that is not a safety item.
I am a bit anal about maintenance, so yes, the air dryer is replaced on schedule and I drain the tanks at least once a month although I've yet to have anything but air escape. The pinhole is at one of the original welds in the tank...someone got a little sloppy. The tank will be replaced one way or another....Dennis
