Your old 'Bat Wing' will work just fine, no need to buy another antenna. I am watching T V on Vizio digital flat screens with a 1997 bat wing and get a very sharp picture!
As others have stated, digital signal is very directional, so you may have to do some trial and error runs to get your best signal.
Your problem is NOT the type of antenna you have!
