I actually sort of do that. When I pickup bait, it can vary. There is "Tomcat" brand available around me, which seems to be pretty mild as to effectiveness. "Ramik" is available, which an exterminator guy suggested I try - and it does seem to work better. "One Bite", which I can't find anymore in local stores, worked best... I am going to try ordering that through the internet.
And YES, I use enclosed "bait stations" so other animals won't eat the bait.
