- Talking about screws..... By the time I finished up the facing for the shelving, I discovered I had used well over 100 screws, which were 1" long. I had bought 2 packs of them from Lowes, with 100 in each pack.
The first pack is gone, and I am well into the second pack, and am expecting I will need a bunch more.
With that in mind, I ordered a pack from Amazon, which is a box of 500. Our local Lowes and Home Depot didn't have anywhere near that many, and according to Amazon, they will be here tomorrow. Yay!
Cost of the box was $20.08, which is well under what it would have been buying them locally, 100 at a time.
We can add that into our spreadsheet total, for a new grand number of $9,669.64. STBRetired wrote:
Material pricing is just strange. I'm putting up a wainscoting on my deck made from some left over tongue and groove Ipe I have from when the deck surface was done years ago. Too hard to shoot nails or staples through so I need stainless steel trim screws. Big box store wants $10 for 40. I will need about 1000 to finish the job. Went to Amazon, $70 for 4500. Same screw, saame manufacturer. Makes no sense. Saved a few $$ but now I'll have about 3500 screws left.
Need any?? #8 X 2" 316 Stainless Trim screws #10 Torx drive
I agree on the screw pricing. I found the same thing a while back with Kreg screws, 1.25" long. Little over $10 for 250 at Lowes, and $81 on Amazon for 5000.
Both in a Kreg box. Everything the same.
Unfortunately, I would not know where to use a 2" long screw, although, I do love the Torx drive. They are so nice to use, don't slip, and do not require much pressure to keep the bit engaged in the head.
If only they were all like that!- STBRetiredExplorerMaterial pricing is just strange. Ignore the funny white marks on the center of the door, because they will be covered up with another skin on top of that. Looking a little better.....
- I also, spent some time cutting the walnut boards to a close size for the counter tops. I have them near where they should be, and need to glue them together, before installing and final trimming.
Here's a look at where it's at.
- Some days are not meant for working flat out for hours on end. Some days it is necessary to spend some time trying to find components for one of the next steps in the build.
Such was today. I did get some work done though.
Talked with the wife for a little while about upcoming parts of the project to finalize a couple of things.
Also called a local lumber yard for some special lumber. This is not a run of the mill, Lowes or Home Depot.
I want to use a little bit of PurpleHeart wood inside, so I called and asked if they had any.
Most of theirs was already surfaced, and was of smaller dimensions, but they did have a piece of 1" thick rough cut, 13" wide and 15' long. Yay, and ouch at the same time.
I asked him if it was going to cost me an arm, a leg, and my first born? Close he said.
Turns out, that piece of wood is $235.00. Not sure I need that much, although, I could probably find a few places to use it.
I'll have to make a trip over there to see what else they have, and go from there. - Took the day off today. Why? Because I could. Lol. Hope you had a great weekend!
- cap'n. Cap'n.... CAP'N.......
CAPTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT?
I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it... whack....
What did you do????
Here! .............
OK, OK, it's not quite that exciting..... Feels good though.
I finally finished getting the face frames done and installed on the passenger side for the shelves. Wahoo!
These actually went together a little better than the drivers side. Either way, I am glad they are both done. - Having an air nailer around to use, especially for finish nailing is Great! Sure beats having to hammer a nail in, and then use a nail set to finish getting said nail below the surface of the wood, as well as takes waaaaaayyyyy less time.
Here's a cheapie I bought at Harbor Freight years ago. Still works great.
Currently using 1" long nails. This nailer will take up to 2" long nails, and I think about 5/8" as the shortest.
- Nothing like having a helping hand around when you need one, or 2.
