Arizona State Taxes if Annually Rent RV Space??

As long as you don't spend more than 7 months in AZ or get a job there you are ok.

I have a fiver in a rv park.We leave the fiver there all year. Your choices would be to keep a plate on the rig or pay property tax on the rig. The tag option is usually cheaper. The tax people come by to check occasionally usually in the summer.

It's a touchy situation. The law about Part-year resident income tax is based on where you're located, and not where you store your possessions such as an RV. If I were you, I'd call the Arizona department of revenue and get information directly from them. I'd trust their response much more than the advice you get from an internet forum.

Most states use the 183 day rule to establish residency. If you are not physically present in the state more than 183 days, you probably won't have an issue. The operative word there is "probably." We have gone through a number of residency audits with NYS and they are ugly and time consuming. I don't think Arizona is quite as aggressive, but be aware of where you vote, what state you license your vehicles in, and what state your own driver's license is from.

this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. you moved out of CA, established residency elsewhere, and when you visited CA and did not earn any money in CA they wanted income taxes from you. how did they even know you were in CA visiting or is there something you aren't telling us?

Nothing like tramping around and not having residency anywhere. :) I thought Arizona was on the 183 day rule though... Almost positive.

My father in law retired from the military while stationed in california and immediately moved to colorado. California came after him for taxes for years. He finally prevailed but he was harassed and threatened for those years. No good reason, that was just California.

That was called "The source tax." California, as well as other states with a state income tax, decided that any pension you received that was based on work you did while in California that you owed California State income tax on it, regardless of where you lived after retirement. That was outlaws by Federal law years ago. Only the state you claim residency in or earn income in, can collect income taxes on you, assuming you follow the time limit rules. You can't claim to be a Nevada resident and spend 2 days in Nevada and 363 days in California. Or at least you can't get caught doing that.

From Arizona Revised Statute: ARS43-104 (19)

"19. "Resident" includes:
(a) Every individual who is in this state for other than a temporary or transitory purpose.
(b) Every individual who is domiciled in this state and who is outside the state for a temporary or transitory purpose. Any individual who is a resident of this state continues to be a resident even though temporarily absent from the state.
(c) Every individual who spends in the aggregate more than nine months of the taxable year within this state shall be presumed to be a resident. The presumption may be overcome by competent evidence that the individual is in the state for a temporary or transitory purpose."

It looks like the cut off for Arizona is nine months.
