Parking in an auto space is not wise, for two reasons: 1) the RV will partially block the driveway, and 2) the RV does not have the panaramic view of an auto and is dangerous backing up when you can't see what's behind you or pulling through.
The newer RVs with the wide view mirrors and backup camera have no problem seeing what is behind or coming to either side. A slow backup maneuver allowing oncoming traffic to be aware that you are backing also helps. An RV that is less than 24' does not block the lanes in the interstate rest areas. A busy rest area, which is usually the case in the middle of the day, will have lots of trucks needing those truck spaces, so why needlessly antagonize those truck drivers? Know it or not, the majority of those truck drivers would be our best friends if ever we were in trouble. I know, I used to be a truck driver! - ROADTREKKER2000ExplorerWe always park the RV in the truck lanes, unless they are full, in which case we move on to the next rest stop.

The width of the stalls are wider as well. The is no reason for a B not to park where the cars go. There is no propane restriction I am aware of. Trailering would be the only limitation I see.

I always pull into the car lot first but I have often left there for the RV lot when I see how narrow the aisle are in the car lot and see spaces sized for compacts. Also if the car lot is crowded, I pull out and go to the RV lot where I can have a whole lot more space than I need but am as entitled to as the big rigs. Also - no parking garages - I have yet to come to one that has clearance for my B, even at just 9 feet.
Just keep in mind that our big-rigs cannot fit at all in the car section. Even our 'truck' section can be tight for us as we have to share it with the commercial big-rigs, large RV's AND trucks with fifth-wheels.
I also try to be considerate of the truckers as they have to rest at certain times. I'm retired, they are not, so I try to keep that in mind.
We have at times pulled into a rest stop and it was too full to stop. It is upsetting to see a class B or even class C in the 'big-truck' section taking up space meant for big rigs.

- mlts22ExplorerI've used the passenger vehicle section as well, mainly because most cars are not going to be running 600 horsepower Cummins engines at idle all night, nor running a set of APUs right in the next space over.
- stan909ExplorerWe park in passenger vehicle section.
- omjonesExplorerI go in the rv section. I just figure it's because they don't want propane in the other area.
john 'I am Canadian' - RayUSMCExplorerWe park in autos. Longer church or family vans park there.
- dreedExplorerWas entering a reststop in Texas. Sign said rv's and trucks one way, autos the other way. Took the rv's/truck parking cause, hey, I'm an rv even though I am only 20 feet long. It was all empty at the time. Selected a turn in that was somewhat shorter of the other truck pull throughs. Next morning we were surrounded by trucks. We pulled out on the highway and soon after got a check engine light. Later I stopped for fuel and found the gas cap off. Some trucker was showing his opinion of me parking there. So no, I won't park in the truckers area as they have enough problems finding parking with out me being in the way. The auto parking area might be quieter anyway.
