Awning strap disappeared
I was closing my awning and having a hard time getting it to retract. I gave it a good shove and it started to go - but I didn't have time to grab the awning pull strap and now it's buried in the awn...

This happened to me once when out all alone in the woods- my solution may work for you (assuming you have a nice long piece of rope):
Attach each end of the rope to the top of the arms where they meet the roller, making sure there's enough slack in between for you to pull on the center. Now you've made a substitute "strap".
Unlatch the awning, and position yourself in the middle of the rope. Pull down as usual.
