Awning Strap Flap

Any one come up with a way to keep the awning strap from flapping around? Aside form the noise, it leaves black marks. Thanks!
  • We had the same problem with our last RV, DH used Velcro (small black piece on underside of strap and small white piece on RV where the strap was hitting) and it solved the problem perfectly, no noise, no marks and not noticeable.
  • I bought some of the clamps with bungee balls at a rally several years ago as "deflappers". I thought that is what they were. Hope they work better as clamps.
  • X2 on the "not line up". After our awning was replaced, the tech did not line it up right, and it does hang sometimes. I find that pulling the strap to one side helps get it lined up better sometimes. Other times, nothing helps.

I gave up on the strap. I now use 3 or 4 of these on each side.

    Drop ceiling clamps.

I clamp them onto the awning then slip a 8" bungee ball loop through the end of the handle, loop it around the awning arm and slip the ball through the bungee loop.

With diligent shopping you can get the clamps in the 10 for $10 range. Bungee balls in the 25¢ range when buying in larger quantities. I always find other uses for extras.

OP is talking about the pull down strap used for extending/retracting awning..not deflappers :B Good idea for inexpensive deflappers though!

As suggested roll awning up with strap at an angle but be careful that it doesn't cause awning material to shift sideways or arms will not line up and close properly

  • That is interesting. I always wished ours was a little longer. When rolled up just the tip is vizable and sometimes hard to get the stick in to pull it down. If you have too much hanging out just roll it up with the strap at an angle and more will be inside with just the tip hanging out.
  • When rolling the awning, I try to pull the strap forward or backward so that more of it rolls up inside. This has to be careful, or you can lose it completely inside. If you do, it makes it difficult the next time to get the awning out (but it can be done).
