Bad accident

Just saw the resultsof a bad motorhome accident south os Stephenville, TX on hwy 281. A very nicely painted older Prevost or bus conversion had gone off the highway and hit a very large tree on th e passenger side, causing a large limb, maybe 15 inches ormore in diameter to come off th e treeand through the roof about four feet behind the driver's side. No ambulances were on the scene, but firetruck and police were. I would be surprised if this is not a fatality accident from the looks of the passenger side. It was on a curve and I did not get any pics. Let's be careful out there, folks.

STEPHENVILLE (October 21, 2015) — A bus crash approximately four miles south of Stephenville Wednesday took the life of the front seat passenger, confirms Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Public Information Officer Dub Gilliam.

The identity of the deceased has not been released. He was the stepson of the driver, Kenneth M. Roberson, 69, of Weatherford. Roberson was transported by Erath County EMS to Texas Health Harris Methodist Stephenville Hospital. His passenger was taken by Air Evac and later died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the report from Gilliam.

A 1983 MCI Bus was traveling on US Highway 281 south of Stephenville when the front right tire blew out. The bus went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the report.

Erath County Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Selden Volunteer Fire Department were among the responding units. DPS trooper Justin Becker and Sergeant Lynn Pierce investigated the accident.

    :(
  • Looks to me the driver was hit by flying stuff that was in the motorhome.
  • According to the comments at the bottom of all of the pictures, on the link I provided, one was transported to a hospital by ambulance and one by helicopter.
Still too early for more info.

TRAFFIC ALERT: RV off roadway and into tree, suffering major damage, on US Highway 281 South approx. 4 miles south of Stephenville. Updates below:

(12:20 p.m.) - Units are clearing, with DPS still on scene investigating and a wrecker there to tow the heavily damaged vehicle.

(12:02 p.m.) - Report from scene - Appears there were two patients, both males. The passenger suffered serious injuries. Right front tire of RV is blown out, but it is not known if that was the cause of the accident. There were children's items on the bus but no children to be seen.
  • MCI are commercial buses used by Greyhound.
Not as good as Prevost, but still thanks to metal construction with DOT ratings we can see it was a motorhome and I think driver had good chances to walk from it.
