Banks Long Tube Headers and Ford V-10 Performance

With my 5K truck I'm running at 42K. I think my Diplomat may have been geared a little different. I could pull the Baker grade into Vegas at 60 mph with my Diplomat and once topped it towing a Nissan Frontier at 70mph while racing my brother-in-law. I was also getting 9mpg towing on long trips.

I almost cried with this new coach, the first few grades I pulled. It will drop to about 48mph and climb a wall.....it just won't go any faster. This level of DP is just getting too heavy for the motors they use. The newer model of mine has another 3K in frame and floor tiles. This year, Tiffin offered the ISX in the Allegro Bus, the equivalent to the Dutch Star. Newmar needs to follow suit.

With that much torque it should do good in the hills, is it the low HP or what, my setup plus towing total weight is 26,500 lbs same HP as yours but under half the torque and I am impressed how it handles the hills and I thought mine was going to be a dog.

My previous coach was a 400/1200 ISL at 32K. I chipped it to 450HP and it was a rocket, even when towing. The new coach is a 450/1250 ISL weighing in at 37K and is a dog on the hills. It's taller, heavier and dragging a tag axle.

I don't have a huge issue with smog equipment, especially since they're returning the HP back to the autos. The only problem is how complicated they get if you have an issue. I can eat off the tailipe of my diesel running DEF.

Dons ISL is rated at 450HP/1250Tq.

Our pre-emission ISL is rated at 400HP/1200Tq.

I learned years ago Torque is what matters to me.

It's been said many times before, HP sells stuff, torque is what gets the job done.

DSDP Don, thanks for the reply. I don't mind the smog requirements as from our home in Eagle Rock we can see the ocean quite often and I can remember when that only happened once or twice a year. I think I'll contact the 5Star folks and find out why it is a good idea to remove the 5Star programmer.

I think I'll drop by Banks next week after we get the DGS off to the BSA National Jamboree in WV.

As an aside, our rig is stored out in Semi at All Valleys RV Storage. Nice place and close to the DGKs and DD but damm spendy.

DSDP Don... what kind of HP/Torque does that Cummins 450ISL have

"D.E.Bishop"....hello from a couple of hills west of you! My neighbor has the Five Star tune in his V-10. I just asked him what has to be done to get smogged. In California, Five Star recommends removing it for the smog test and then reinstall. The neighbor says he will try it next time without removing it and see what happens.

Since everything is pretty much computer controlled, I would call Banks, explain your situation (new owner) and ask them if the shfting is normal or if there are some steps they can walk you through to make sure everything is working correctly.

D.E.Bishop... I have 5 Star Tuning installed and I passed smog test for 2 years in a row here in Nevada just fine.

As to performance test you need to go to a dyno machine to have it tested, but it needs to be done before performance equipment is installed and afterwards to see any improvments.

Also my experience with Banks tuner vs 5 Star tuner is that 5 Star is more better for a motorhome and Banks is more geared towards race mode.
{ also Banks might require higher octane where as 5 Star does not }

Banks headers/exhaust/air intake is best in that area of performance but 5 Star tuner is better over Banks Tuner for motorhomes as I see it.
