First you do not have 4 Six volt batteries, You have two, two piece, 12 volt batteries (Please think of them as such)

now your question becomes "Is it possible to replace two 12 volt batteries with two 12 volt batteries".. Clearly the answer is yes I might add many other questions become as clear if you just think of those six volt batteries as 1/2 of a 12 volt each (The pair is a 12 volt size 4D in case you wonder).

Now: Why?
The Six volt are typically GC-2, 220 Amp Hour +/= 10 at 12 volts when paired,

A group 24 is 75 amnp hour give or take,m 27 just under 100, 29, just over

A group 31, is more. but to get the same amp hours you have now you';d need two 4D, and you will be spending way more dollars per amp hour for your batteries.

yes that's not the situation of the OP. he said 24 series
this article refers to VERY large 12Volt batterys- TWO 24 series have 95(ehd ones) each so total 190x2(sets)= 380- 4 trojen 6 volts have a total when converted to two twelve volts =440

No problem and with our coach, it originally came with 4 12v AGM Group 24 batteries. Dealer for previous owner, changed them out to 4 6v wet cells. I put them back to original specs., although, not so sure if having used 4 6v AGM's would have provided more power or not. I have to ask why? 4 twelves gave you less than 4 6 Volts for total reserve capacity

Any chance you have a large inverter that needs four batteries?
Otherwise one 12v might get you by just fine hopping from one campground to the next to plug in.

no your reading it wrong(and no wonder)I believe they want to change out 4 Six volt batterys for two 12V batterys

Yes you can hook 2, 6V batteries together in series and the second together also in series and then the two sets of series in parallel so this way you get 12v and the higher amperage by doing it this way.

I have mixed different brand 12V batteries together here and always run into the problem when charging them back up - they all seem to get charged up at different times. Then the weakest batteries all seem to pull down the good batteries to their weaker performance levels...

Just to make sure, are you asking if you can CHAIN 4 6volt batteries along with 2 12 volt batteries giving you 6 total batteries? That's what it looks like you are wanting to do.

OR

are you wanting to take the 6-volt batteries out and replace them with 2 12 volt batteries?
