Battery cut off switch/salesman switch

Hi all, This is Michbill.

We bought a 2009 Monaco, Dynasty, Regal IV in July. Love it! However, the battery cut off switch, located in the door frame by the passenger seat, stopped working. This is a "gang" of three switches the cut off, stairs and ( I'm having a senior moment) can't remember. I have checked the run box in the engine compartment, and the selenoid is working. It appears that the switch inside the house is bad. My question, has anyone had to buy one of these modules? If so where did you get it and about what was the cost.

Thank you

Bill

  • The same thing happened to me. It's not a matter if the solenoid will go bad it's when it will go bad. I did bypass the solenoid all is well now.
  • mine were like Don's. The right cable was long enough to remove and attach to the left lug on the solenoid, therefore bypassing it.

Been like that for years, no problem.

Dynasty might be different than "knight, ambassador, diplomat, endeavor" sister coaches, dynasty is a bump up the paygrade.
  • michbill......If you look at the solenoid in the "Run Bay" outside bay under the driver's window, you'll see the solenoid in the lower left corner of the big black box.

You'll have two large (battery cable size) cables running to both sides of the solenoid. They'll be held on with 3/8" or 7/16" nuts. To bypass the solenoid, simply remove both cables and take a small nut and bolt and connect the two together. Once they're connected, tape then well with black electrical tape so that the metal cable ends and the bolt/nut are completely covered.

The safest way to do this is to turn your house batteries off while you do the work. It will taken you longer to find a small bolt/nut that fits the cable end holes than doing the work. Simple job.
  • Thank you all.
    I have two follow-up questions:
    1. Where is the fuse? I saw "breakers" that show when they are tripped with the little tab below them.
    2. You are talking about bypassing the selenoid correct? Does anyone have photos on how to bypass the selenoid?
  • Even though you resolved the issue......it's still best to disable it, unless you use it for some reason. First, there is always a chance someone bumps it and shuts down your coach and as "The Texan" stated, it WILL fail and may do so at an inopportune time.
  • I replaced the switch as I thought that was the problem. How ever I thought those 3 switches were all one , but after getting it out, it was that all 3 were single rocker switches. The chrome cover made it look like they were all one. It turns out it was fuse that was in beside the solenoid. Replaced the fuse and it all worked fine. The switch was still good. The solenoid appeared to be working, I should say it was clicking.
  • No, we all just bypass the switch and don't worry about it failing again, when the weather is nasty.
  • If it's just the switch. Replace it....it's a Carling switch....Dennis
