You're comparing the wrong things. An RV wouldn't get good gas mileage on the way down if it fell out of a tree. Compare the costs versus staying in hotels. Be sure to factor in having to keep your shoes on to keep your bare feet from sticking to the carpet. And sleeping in a bed where last night's top sheet becomes tonight's bottom sheet. And eating exclusively in restaurants.
Before I retired, I traveled for the company. And I could stay at top shelf hotels, not the "no tell motel" on the edge of town. Haven't been in a hotel/motel since.
