When Midwest Tire installed my long chrome stems, they did minor adjustment to the stems using the box-end of a combination wrench - slightly bending the stem. Seem to work just fine.
I took a hand grinder to my wheel liners for my borg dually valves, only needed to do it for the outside stem. Just need to be careful now that I don't cut myself on them where I did the grinding. - applegaterExplorerWe use extended stem(Tireman) so that we can have TPMS sensors on each.

I took a dremel tool and opened up the half moon on the wheel simulators to ensure there would be no interference
+1
I had to dremel 3 of the 4 wheel simulators to keep them from touching.locster wrote:
Please excuse my newbie ignorance, but why do you guys use extended valve stems? With how much they cost including installation, one can buy a portable air compressor and a dually chuck to check and fill air any time. How about when you need to rotate the tires, do you have to dismount the tires to switch the stems also?
We have the extended valve stems so we can reach them with the compressor and dually chuck more easily.
I don't rotate the tires. You won't drive an RV enough to wear the tread, so there is no need to rotate the tires to even out the tread wear. When I replaced my previous tires, at 7 years old, the tread still looked new. The sidewalls were a different story. - OldRadiosExplorerThis is what I use. Compressor fits nicely and stays in the storage compartment and the hose reaches all tires. The valve stems on the inners just come through the outer wheel but the wheel covers are still a pain so I removed them. No need for them.
As far as rotation, not many miles get put on so if I do rotate them it will just be side to side and inners will stay inners. My tires get replaced due to age long before they show any wear. - locsterExplorerPlease excuse my newbie ignorance, but why do you guys use extended valve stems? - OldRadiosExplorerI ditched my wheel covers.
- StarkNakedExplorer IIYes, it will cause a problem! On mine, it actually cut all the way into the center of the valve stem and gave me a flat tire. Do not let the wheel simulator touch the valve stem!!!
- JTExplorerThe wheel covers will score the valves (Tireman/Borg), so you will want to do as others have suggested and use a dremel tool (the wheel covers are stainless steel, so the dremel takes some time to cut a notch or an 'elongation', and the steel gets hot) to enlarge the wheel cover holes so they don't saw on the valves.
One can also use a plasma cutter, but most people don't have one of those handy! :B
I've had Tireman valves on my rig for over 10 years; the first thing I did was ream out the holes on the wheel covers. - j-dExplorer III had to file a little too.
