Brake failure

Had brake failure warning on dash. Pedal goes to the floor. Lucky I was pulling into our destination gulf state park in gulf shores al. I have a 2004 fleetwood fiesta which is on a workhorse chassis. No fluid leaking,I think the front pads were sticking overheating the brake fluid. My real question is are there any recommendations for a repair facility nearby.
  • Another reason for a TPMS that registers the temps too....I had a caliper stick and was able to stop and fix it before it became an "issue"....Dennis

What chassis? The brake recall was only on the W series chassis and was completed several years ago. The P series, and actually any RV chassis, can suffer from sticking calipers if the vehicle has sat unused and the caliper slides have not been lubricated. Also the brake fluid needs to be flushed every few years since it absorbs moisture and it will boil at a much lower temperature than pure brake fluid.
Any medium to large truck service facility should be able to flush your brake system and lubricate your slides. They will probably be cheaper and more experienced with brakes than most RV shops. Here is a list of service centers in the Alabama area. RV service centers

99% of the time when the pins become so rusted that the caliper wont slide it simply wears the pistion side pad at a much faster rate
but not over heat.It may cause some extra heat from the lost braking power of losing the brake effect from the outter pad not applying

Your opening line reminded me of last Christmas (2014) On the 18th I went to pick up a new pair of glasses.... An idiot pulled out in front of me and I spiked the brakes, I missed him (not by much) and, as it turns out, blew a brake cylinder... Well a while later I started to notice the soft pedal so I headed to the shop.. And like you the Dash Warning light came on.

AS I PULLED INTO THE SHOP PARKING LOT.

if you got to have that light come on.. Good spot for it don't you think?

That was the bad news.. The good news is I still made it to my Gig on time (Opening act for a very fine music group).

  • Was the break recall done on that rig. There were a lot of workhorse chassis with bad calipers causing your problem
