Brake Shoes

Roughly how many miles should I get on brake shoes on our 2001 Holiday Rambler Imperial? It has a ISC Cummins diesel, and is 42' long, so its quite heavy.

assuming no one before you used them extremely wrong and you have not also abused them badley they will last as long or longer than the MH will. 150-200K or more
  • When we sold our last coach with 170,000 miles the original brake shoes were still over 50%.

The answer depends on your driving style much more than miles.
  • Spartan Chassis has stated that they have never seen brakes wear out in a MH application.

If you are not feeling the joy of a very safe and secure stop, have you calibrated your slack adjusters on a regular basis?

  • We just replaced the Rear Shoes on Our 98 DSDP on a Spartan Chassis! We have 65,000 'Miles on the Odometer. We also replaced the Drums Front and Rear.
the Front Shoes were slightly Glazed and required a light Sanding with a Belt Sander to take off the glaze! (old School)!

We went with Meritor Steelite Drums on the Front along with Aluminum Front Hubs ,new Bearings and Seals.

The Rear Drums were noticeably worn , replaced with new Meritor Cast Drums!

Changed all the Wheels to New Acuride Aluminum Rims so We changed the Rear Studs from Budd Style to Hub Piloted 33 mm . The rear Hubs were designed to accept either.

The New Front Hubs are also Hub Piloted with 33mm Studs.

We would have done the brake job regardless of the wheel change up!
