Brite Tek Roof - Pros and Cons

We are considering the purchase of a Newmar Bay Star 3124 which has a Brite Tek roof. Our current RV has a standard fiberglass roof with which we have had zero problems in 6 years. My understanding is that the Brite Tek roof is supposed to be a superior improvement over the traditional rubber roof. This issue is important for us as our RV would be in uncovered storage when not in use. What has been your experience with Brite Tek?
  • Mine is 9 years without any problems. Just keep it clean like the rest of the coach.

I would not go that far. It has a lifespan like any product. When I called the maker it was 20 years in their lab testing. It also will ever so slightly shrink year after year pulling away from joints. It's tough, but it can tear and then a patch needs to be applied.

With that said, I would not be afraid of buying a RV with that roof material.
  • We've owned (3) new Newmars, a '00 Dutchstar gasser, a '03 Kountry Star diesel, and our current one, an '08 Kountry Star diesel. All 3 have had the Brute Tek roof, if we were buying new today and we had a choice between BriteTek and fiberglass I'd probably pick BriteTek again.

We had the choice when we ordered our '08 and based on our experience we chose it again. We have never regretted that decision.

I will also say we have had a true rubber roof in the past, I wouldn't be interested in another.

BriteTek is a completely different material.

As far as pros and cons, the pros are it is virtually maintenance free, it's tough, it's quiet, it has a long track record of excellent service.

As far as cons, there are none. If I had to come up with one I'd say it too often gets lumped in with rubber by those who aren't educated on it.
  • It is not something I would concern yourself over....mine (original owner bought in Nov 2002) has a TPO (some call it rubber) and has been going strong for 15 years and I see no reason to change it...stored outside, same conditions.
