Broken window

The last time we were out with the motor home (Pismo Beach, Ca.) the motor home locked us out. I had the key but when I unlocked the door and pulled the handle it relocked itself. I ended up breaking a bedroom window to crawl through. I broke the window that needed replacing because it was fogged up. This is the second time this happened to us. The first time it was simple, called AAA and they sent a locksmith out, paid him a small fee and it was over and we were happy. This time it was 10:30 at night and Coach Net couldn't find a locksmith to come out. The even called the police to come help us and they wouldn't come. Has this ever happened to you and you ended up breaking a window ?

By the way, now I know why it does it and we will take precautions from now on. Couldn't even get my dog to unlock the door. Also going to leave that window unlocked from now on.:o

The problem was I had a couple set of keys in my possession but they didn't work. Somehow, the inside latch handle snagged the outside of the glass slider on the screen door. Now that I know why I'll always make sure the slider is closed before I lock the door.

but the OP evidently had the key, and for some reason when it relocked itself the key wouldn't work????????????

  • Good to leave a window unlocked, in 11 years of fulltiming have had the entry lock break and the deadbolt above it break. On the entry lock lucked out our daughter was inside and that part of the lock worked. The second time, DW went through the driver's window which was unlocked and turned the thumb latch on the deadbolt. We used a picnic table to gain access to the driver's window. Also have a collapsible stepladder and a Tele-Steps extension ladder, buried in the basement of the Phaeton.
  • Wow. Sorry about the trouble. Excellent idea leaving a window unlatched.
