BT Cruiser Electrical Problems Revisited

I plugged in a ceramic heater. It worked for a minute or two then shut down. I have not been able to get power to the electrical plugs since.

From suggestions I received from my previous post, I found the breakers and reset them. Still no power. I reset the GFI. Problem is it is hard to read where it is placed, so I pushed each of two buttons one at a time and tried for power. No luck there either.

I looked for other possible GFI outlets inside and outside and did not find any.

I am using a hair dryer that I know works because I tried it this afternoon on a house outlet.

Any other suggestions as to what to do next?

  • Thanks to all.

It was a loose connection after all. Somewhere between the extension cord, the adapter and the RV electrical cable.

I decided to trace it from the source and checked each connection with a hair dryer. Disconnected the extension cord; checked that power was there; plugged it back in and I have power to all my electrical outlets.

Assume someone must have walked over the extension and jarred it loose enough to disconnect.

Just reinforces the idea to check the simple things first before considering that we may have a disaster on our hands.
  • Use a meter to verify you're getting power from the shore connection, then verify that it's present going into and coming out of the transfer switch. Next verify the power coming into the main breaker panel, and finally verify you have power going out on any one of the circuits.

I had the same problem on my RV. Good power until one day everything went out. Turned out to be a loose connection on one of the wires coming from the transfer switch into the main breaker panel. I could see power coming into the breaker, but nothing going out. Cleaned up the connection and haven't had a problem since.
  • Does everything work when you run the generator. If so then I would think the problem is with either what your plugged into. I had this happen on mine try pushing the cord in firmly at the pedestal and if it screws into the side of the coach unscrew it and reseat it and screw it back on. Let us know how it goes.
  • GFI will not reset unless it is getting 110 power. So the coach needs to have the gen on or plugged into 110 and all breakers on.

My lesson learned the hard way!

  • You cant push both the buttons on a GFCI at the same time. You have to push the one that resets it.
The thing is, a heater should not trip a GFCI unless either the heater has a ground fault or the GFCI is bad - which happens all the time.
  • Check the outlet the camper is plugged into. If you tripped the breaker feeding the camper, you won't be able to reset the GFCI receptacle.
  • Do you have an inverter? If yes check on it for breakers.

  • Thanks. Even with a magnifying glass, it will be difficult to read. However, I will try that.
  • When you pushed both of the GFI buttons, you may have pressed them in the wrong order. One of them is the test button and there's no reason to push it. If you pushed the reset button first and pushed the test button last, then you turned it OFF. Get some magnifying readers and push just the reset button.
