I looked at one in a supply store before I built mine and the ell was just short of the pipe (about 2"), I was told that was to cool the exhaust gas. Has there been more than one design from CAMCO?
There must be. Mine is labeled as Gen-Turi on the bag and each piece. It definitely extends into the tube and was designed that way. The opening of the PVC is not tapered or anything so there is plenty of airflow around it. Adding another small piece to your ell will get it in the tube and reduce the exhaust noise even more. I will try to get a picture of my gen-turi when I get home.
