Buyer Requirement for RV Sale - What's your opinion

Hi. Hey, I have my RV up for sale and i have a potential buyer that lives about 2 hours away. He wants his mechanic to look at it and i told him i wouldn't bring it up there for that but he's welcome to bring him down to my place to look at it. Well, he says he's interested and sent me a form to sign if he comes down and buys it. It is basically a bill of sale but has the statement: Seller agrees to allow Buyer 14 business days to have the vehicle inspected. If in that 14 business days deficiencies not previously made known by Seller are discovered and exceed $500.00 in total to repair or replace Seller agrees to pay for the repair or replacement.

I told him i was selling 'As-Is'. I'm not hiding anything from him, but i'm not fixing anything. What if his mechanic says it needs new tires (which it doesn't), then i'm locked into buying new tires. He's agreed to bump the repair amount to $1000. I'm still not comfortable with this arrangement.

What's your opinon on this?

Thanks.

  • Stick to your guns of selling as is and that he is more than welcome to bring someone down to inspect it at his expense.
  • I would cross out that portion and write "AS IS". Either his mechanic does his job or he doesn't. Have him contract his mechanic under those circumstances and see what happens.

When I sold one of my vehicles, the guy arrived and was a military vet. He agreed to my online price so when he paid me cash, I returned $100, thanked him for his service, and told him to use that $100 for any unexpected repairs that come up. We were both happy with the sale.

It would just be "no" for me. That's like writing a blank check.

I agree. They could claim anything and everything what so ever.
"As Is" is just what it says.
  • I agree. If he really is serious, he will come to you. Two hours is nothing.

  • Nope...Bucky is correct about the blank check. Reword it so your MAX repair would be $500, or agree to reimburse him for the cost of the inspection including travel time for his inspector IF and only if he buys the coach. Otherwise it's his nickel.....Dennis
