Bypass Nashville

I can't find a map one around here. they're apparently all in the coach.
If 48 is Briley Parkway, you can avoid some traffic. It makes for a circuitous route, however. Lots of people would like to avoid Nashville. there ain't no way all routes go within 30 miles and it's all more of a mess than we want. There is US 31, from Lebanon area, or rather still Nashville congestion, north and US 27 also to the east, of Nashville, very east as in Crossville. Other side through land Between the Lakes and some rural and tiring routes, way to the west, of Nashville. Might work out a route from I65, 840, to I40, west and through Land Between the Lakes. Stay away from Jackson.

I am going to vote for taking a bypass around Nashville - we visited friends there in Sept and I found the Interstates to be very congested and busy. Although, I try and bypass all larger cities when we travel.

I was looking to go from I-65 coming from the south and intersecting with I-24 and on to I-39 and north to Wisconsin. So I thought that 840 west to I-40 West and then take exit for Hwy 48 to Clarkville where I intersect with I-24 West and continue my journey. I have driven through Nashville many times and it isn't bad but am always open to new roads and options. It is always best I have found to ask the locals as they know the daily routines and hidden pluses and minuses. Thanks.

you confused me. If you want to go 840 east to I24 it is a great ride and will avoid Nashville totally. 840 goes south of Nashville.

One thing that can be done when a freeway takes you too close to a big traffic jam type city is this.

Get close, find a "overnight" spot and hit the sack EARLY.. Get up around oh, say 2AM and then hit the bricks to the other side of Big-Traffic-Jam City.. Find a spot for the rest of the night and continue, in the daylight.

Not familiar with Hwy 48. Going on through to I65/I24 no worries but heavy traffic at the juncture. 41A to Clarksville off I24 has several stop lights and a used to be speed trap.
Construction was on the east bound side of I24 last time I was through.
Traffic and stop lights through Clarksville is not pretty.
if heading for the base go to and stay on I24 until you reach Hopkinsville, Ft Campbell exit.

I-840 is a great option if going thru Nashville on I-40 particularly rush hour, or if taking either I-24 or I-65 south from Nashville off of I-40.

Hwy 48 looks to be way out of the way if headed north from I-65, you would have to take I-840 to its western end at I-40, then I-40 west to Dickson to pick up Hwy 48. It's about 22 miles further, and Hwy 48 is a relatively slow 2 lane highway, guessing it would add at least an hour over straight thru Nashville.

It looked to me like the bypass I suggest might be quicker and with nearly zero chance of traffic jams. I have driven through Nashville without trouble but was looking for something different. Apparently no one has considered this. It would only be useful for those using I-24 to Illinois and beyond.

We traveled through Nashville northbound a week ago last Saturday. Only problem area was the I24/I65 split. Not very well signed. Only one narrow lane, left, for the I24 ramp until just before the split.
