- Chris_B_in_MDExplorerWe have an E450 & tow a manual shift 2003 Subaru Outback. It doesn't weigh a lot & lets us go off roading to boot.
- HealeymanExplorerYa can't get more fun than THIS.
Tim - stoyles1ExplorerSo my Honda Fit transmission has become "bumpy". Jumping in and out of gear especially when in reverse. So I brought it into Honda to get looked at and they said they wouldn't cover it under warranty since it was towed??? I mean I traded in my car for this because it COULD be towed and told them it when I bought it?? Then I had it professionally setup to be towed and have towed it for probably a few thousand miles following the directions carefully. The Fit is a very easy toad. However Honda is not backing up their product it seems. They offered me $1000 dollars against the $3911 bill the guy dropped on me... ridiculous.
Anyone out there have this issue with a car company that allows cars to be towed 4 flat? Anyone know what my options are? I find this ridiculous and upsetting in every way.
DO NOT GO HONDA FOR A TOW VEHICLE - Chris_B_in_MDExplorerWe drag a 2003 manual shift Subaru Outback behind our 2010 Jamboree sport. That way we can do some off-roading. You'd be surprised where we've taken that thing.
- rbreakExplorerOverdrive that is the same way I feel with our 2003 dakota. It's still a nice vehicle, but it's old enough that we don't worry taking it out exploring or running around the bumpy/muddy/whatever forest roads we might be on, and hauling bicycles, grills and other gear in the bed. Plus, I would have hated to do all the drilling and modifying I had to do for the base plate, electrical and brake system required for towing on a nice new vehicle.
I should have mentioned too that for a dakota you will need the 4x4 with the neutral capable transfer case. Makes for very easy 4 down towing. - overdrive75ExplorerWe tow a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4 door behind ours. You have to have the 4 button 4 wheel driver selection. Our tows pretty good pretty much what I expected for performance out of a Ford V-10 E450. My 6.0L chevy 2500 HD at higher loads would run circles around this thing, but that is another topic.
I have been out east in the hills/mountains and not a complaint. I like the room of the 4-door blazer, it's not new so if we want to bump around on the forest roads/two tracks I don't care if it gets marked up.
Here is the set up. - rbreakExplorer2003 dodge dakota 4x4, tows fine 4 down with blue ox tow bar behind my 29' 2008 class c ford with v10. Motorhome did work hard going up some 8% grades on hwy 111 in Tennessee, but I expected it and it wasn't that bad. You can use the truck bed for bicycles or other gear (as long as you don't get to heavy).
- armadillo_17ExplorerI am using a 2012 Jeep Patriot 3200#. But it has to be a manual. 2016 Patriots have 2 auto transmissions available. The CVT can not be towed 4 down , don't know about the 6 speed.

All, Thanks for responding. Glad to see many options are out there.
Did not see if anyone had any luck with Toyota Rav4??
Toyota says no for four down on pretty much all of their automatics, and if AWD you usually can't tow on a dolly.
In this size SUV folks are mostly towing Honda CR-V or Saturn Vue because the manufacturers say OK and provide a procedure to prep. - tenbearExplorerThe RAV4 is not listed as towable in the 2016 MotorHome guide to towing.
