Toad Vehicle

Currently a fifth wheel owner but looking to move to a Class C. Interested in obtaining a list of vehicles that can be towed as 4 wheels down. Does any one post such a list?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all, I have downloaded the 2013 Guide to Dinghy Towing from Motor Home magazine.

Keep in mind that a vehicle that is listed as towable in the 2013 model year might not have been towable in previous years, or in the 2014 model year.

Even after reviewing the list confirm with the dealer that your particular year/model can be towed and if there are any special requirements or options needed. The lists are guides.
And insist on seeing in writing from the mfg as some will tell you what they think you want to hear.

the best confirmation is the owner's manual under towing behind a motorhome or recreational towing.

  • Most GM and Fords can be towed 4-down as can different models of Jeep (the most common toad). Foreign models are few, no toyotas, only the CRV (2nd most common toad) and Fit, std trans Subarus . Many "older" models (both domestic and foreign) with standard trans can be towed 4-down.

Do a search here, or just go to the dinghy forum and check current and past posts.

  • And 1000's of posts on these boards on toads, modified cars, tow bars, aux brakes and lights.

I personally would only tow any vehicle identified as towable by the mfg. Mfg may be concerned about the vehicle as delivered:
    1. Drive train can't be towed
    2. Car stability when towed
    3. Installation of aux brake or lights
    3. Liability of mfg
    4. Inadequate support for tow bar
    5. Marketing concerns
