Cable TV at RV park

In Sedona the campground had us use their digital converter box to make the TV work.I could only access the bedroom TV and could not use the front TV because of access. I'm going to replace the TV's w/ flatscreens in the coming months. It's becoming too much trouble to use the old analog TV's. The TV mfgr's have to love the problems created by the digital changes to signals!

Some people on this link take the easy route of putting in a 2X4 and mounting their TV mount on the 2X4. Others take the route I took and turned the space their old CRT TV used into cabinet space and mounted the new flat screen TV in front of the new cabinet space.

I have a digital over the air converter for both my front and rear tv sets that work very well.
However a digital cable converter is another thing entirely. Is there a digital cable converter box that can be purchased for all the different cable companies you are likely to encounter. Or is there a one size fits all type thing like the over the air digital converter box?

I would second switching that old beastly tube TV out. It will still work fine on the majority of campground cable systems but so will a new HD set and the new set will have the advantage of pulling over the air from your antenna with no extra equipment needed.

There are a lot of digital channels over the air now and some are actually not bad. The picture quality on the HD ones blows away the cable as well. If you get a decent signal where you are parked, watching the game on a network TV broadcast over the air is every bit as good as HD satellite and maybe better.

Also, the new TVs are getting very thin and light. I put a cheap 24" on the overhead in our MH and it can't weigh but 8 lbs. It was so light, I just put a cheap flush mount that I picked up at Ross across the opening for the old TV and secured it with normal wood screws and lock washers. In the bedroom, I used another cheap articulating arm secured with bolts and lock nuts. The TV that was in there from the factory already had a nice strap for it built into the cabinet so that strap now holds the new tv against the cabinet when in motion.

LCD TVs use very little power so a small 12v inverter can power the new set if use while driving is desired.

the cable tv at the parks I have been in lately still just have the standard cable selection of channels, no 5.1, etc. he wasn't talking about OTA.

Digital converters are not expensive and connect in the coax between the old batwing antenna and your analog TV. . Most areas have a dozen or so digital channels available and digital signal is either good or not there. 10-15 minute initial hookup.. Think you'll find it Worthwhile.
Here's one example, they are readily available. Some even lower priced.

I left off almost where you see it in the thread. I have built a plywood box that I'm going to mount in the steel frame and I bought an articulating arm to mount and LED TV too. But I haven't got back to finishing this project yet.

Is there anything out there showing how to change over to HDTV? Showing how to take out that old heavy TV and installing a flat screen TV? I could do it but prefer to have something showing how this is done. I am not sure what all is in that upper cabinet above the passenger seat because it has been at the shop getting some work done to it and have not even had a canch to see what all I have and never even tried out the tv at this time. I know there is something there that has a red light on and it,could be a converter box not really sure what it is. Only had the rv for about a month and been in shop getting the cruse and some other work done to it. Will check more into it when I get it home. Now waiting for a part they ordered out of Washington state to keep the RV from being wipped around when the big rigs pass you and also the high winds from moving you around. That should take about another week. I have had anything done that needed to be done to the rv to make it safe and I like everything that is suppose to work to work. Lights etc. Had it winterized and glad I did. Got into the 20's a couple of nights. Again, thanks for all the advice. Really appreciate it. I will accept all the help I can get. :-)

I would also replace it. Good quality LCD and LED/LCD TVs are cheap now.
If you are reasonably handy with tools you shouldn't have much if any problem doing it yourself.
