yep when stopping overnight I would generally just use the CG cable instead of setting up sat. most cable service had espn, etc. some had HBO.

Think about something like Cricket, which is owned and operated by AT&T. Get the unlimited plan and use that for something like PlayStation Vue or Sling TV depending on if you want a DVR or not.

Problem solved. Unlimited and works just about anywhere. You can even hotspot devices and have internet and TV for less than $100.

We have a portable satellite dish so we stopped using the iffy cable provided by some campgrounds. WiFi is generally disappointing at all campgrounds. When it works, it is often very slow. I use the WiFi when I can and use my phone as a hotspot when I do not have WiFi or it is too slow to be useful.

The problem with this scenario is that all of this streaming draws down bandwidth from everyone else..particularly those who don't stream. Many RV parks which provide WiFi find their bandwidth stressed to the max and beyond. Understandably, they aren't willing to invest big (yes big) bucks in new infrastructure, and where will it end?

If you must have all of that stuff, take responsibility for it and provide your own. We use DISH with portability. Nothing is perfect, but we have been satisfied with them.

Your assumption is mostly valid about the quality of cable tv provided at most RV parks/resorts, what you'll really get is degraded video quality and generic channel selection. In Phoenix area OTA reception is excellent and can readily fill your major network needs if that is your only requirement. Wifi is a joke at most RV parks, primarily limited to checking emails and minor surfing.

No doubt it's easy to see that many RVers want more and thus use satellite tv to provide all the same channels they have at home, after all that's what RVing is about. If you have sat tv at home grab a receiver and decide to go with a manually pointed set-up or automated pointing device. For sat tv just for RV use a few months a year, Dish Network is the way to go.

Many TV transmitter sites located on South Mountain just at the southern edge of Phoenix... OTA TV would be the way I would go. All is transmitted in digital high def HDTV mode so your RV TV set should have the digital high def TV installed. Using a digital to analog TV converter sure does take away from great TV reception.. These TV stations will all be local national TV with my of oldies TV stations plus live radar...
