Camping in San Diego

Hi
I am looking to vacation in San Diego, coming from Denver Probably come in on route 8. This would be our first time traveling to California. I've looked in the Good Sam RV Travel Guide and would like something easy to get to. Once to the campground, I have a car. I would like someplace easy and relaxing. I don't have a boat ,so I don't guess I would have to be right by the water. I looked at Santee Lakes but it looks like a bear to get to. Sure would appreciate any advice

Like Polly Sue only one I would suggest is Chula Vista Marina & RV Resort.

With a car it provides access to the entire San Diego area. Very clean, well cared for grounds, restrooms, showers and pool area. Great staff and security at night.

They have been spraying for ants so it's not as bad as in the past.
  • My MIL lived in La Jolla, so we made many trips from Durango to San Diego with our motorhome. We have stayed in three places of which I would only enthusiastically recommend one. The Chula Vista Marina and RV Resort, which is a bit south of town on I-5, but easy to get in and out of from the interstate. We also stayed many times at Campland on the Bay (Mission Bay) in Pacific Beach. It was very handy for our needs and comfort, but we did not love the place. Lots of little ants, among other things. We stayed in the Mission Bay RV Resort once, but it was not a friendly place and had few amenities. (Drove over their speed bump at about 1 MPH and a cupboard spewed a lot of, it turns out, highly breakable Melamine onto the floor!) If you don't need the proximity to SD, then look at the places in Oceanside, which would be more fun.
