I personally feel that 21-22ft is just about the limit in length for full mobility. Ours HERE measures 23'-8" end-to-end and taking a trip without our tow vehicle does have it's limitations.
BTW: Our model is offered with a slide-out. I personally recommend This New Model 15" Stretched Version for a total of 24'-11" but you won't find it used at $40,000. Only ours can be found used in your price range for it has been made for quite some time now.
If you must have extra elbow and head room, then rule out every Phoenix Cruiser for they are intentionally scaled down for ease of drivability and a stronger house structure.
I like that cruiser...it appears to be roomier inside than it looks... - ron_dittmerExplorer IIII personally feel that 21-22ft is just about the limit in length for full mobility. Ours HERE measures 23'-8" end-to-end and taking a trip without our tow vehicle does have it's limitations.

Like you we were looking for a short class C with a slide, but we also wanted a 2005 or newer on the Ford E450 chassis because of the 5 speed transmission and extra load capacity of the E450. Seems like there were tons of class Cs 27 feet and longer, but very few short ones, especially with a slide out, available. We eventually found what we were looking for, but I had to travel to San Diego to get it.

Amen...
If you are looking at new, don't expect much over the $50k range...you might find a few in the $40k range, but more than likely mid to upper range. Not sure if I've seen a small c (22' or so) with a slide. Usually the bed is a corner bed. Get up to the 28' and they have a walk around bed. But if you are going up to 28' you are getting in that range of not driving it everywhere like you would a 22-24'. You wouldn't think that 4-6' would make a difference, but it does. You might want to start looking at Class B's if you are gonna go into a small Class C. - BobboExplorer IIIThe problem is the word "reasonable." - PopsExplorer2x ol' yeller. We also have a Aspect 26A (actually 27' bumper to bumper). In 5 years, 30,000 miles have not needed a toad yet. Can always do a rental if necessary. Decided the Aspect 26A or Cambria 26A from 2005 to 2008 had the floor plan we wanted (wife, dog, me). Searched for that over internet using rvtrader, camping world, etc. After many months found 3 close to me (between 600-150 mi away, one from individual, other 2 from different dealers. This was in 2009. Bought the one from a small dealer.
- AJRExplorerHum, my 28’ C takes up two parallel parking spots or two diagonal parking spots. Because I had a class A my Escape is set up for towing. So I do tow it when necessary.
- Snowman9000ExplorerObviously there is no one cutoff point in size as far as parking, but I can add our experience with 23' and 25' class C's. Basically we always find a place to park, even in towns. But I can see where going over 25' would be more dicey. So far we have gone toadless with the two short C's. The main reason I've considered a toad is so one of use could go do something while the other stays in the MH at camp. Other than that we don't miss a toad.
We have a queen bed as OP wants, but no slide. - bsinmichExplorerYou will find that 27' does not have parking places at many of the tourist stops. You will park and do a lot of walking. We had a 27' class C for 6 years and ended up towing.
- luberhillExplorer27 or 28 ft would be fine,,,shouldnt need a toad with that length,,,dont need a walk around bed
