- wohtexExplorerI have been with State Farm since the late 70's and have had a travel trailer and motor home insured with them. On the TT they paid two different claims each totaling about $3K. When I got my new Fifth Wheel they would not insure it because we were going full time. Still have two cars and life insurance with them.
Bill - dbatesExplorerI started out with State Farm on my motor home, auto & home owners but after reviewing their policy regarding road service I changed the motor home over to Progressive at about the same annual cost and it has increased VERY little in the 7 years I’ve been with them. Progressive’s road service is about the same as Good Sam’s separate road service but a lot less expensive. State Farm uses their auto policy to cover motor homes and is limited in what they will cover. Progressive has personal possession, campground liability, predetermined total damage for the motor home and some other coverage’s that State Farm does not provide. I did retain State Farm on my auto and home but I’m having problems with them on tornado damage to my home now. I also had tornado damage to my motor home and Progressive was very quick and professional in handling the claim.
We’ve noticed in the past that even though our agent is very nice and tries to help us with claims she has virtually no authority or leverage with their adjusters or company.
Dave - DSDP_DonExplorerMarv.....Note the response, everyone who loves State Farm DOES NOT live in California. Like others, my parents were with State Farm and that's who I went with. I had them for 20 years until the 1990's. In the 90's they no longer wanted to do auto policies in California and their rates went through the roof (no claims, great credit). I asked my agent when the increases were going to stop. He told me there wouldn't be anymore increases. The next billing cycle they went up again. I dropped State Farm after 20 plus years and didn't even get so much as a courtesy call from my agent of 10 years.
In California, I found that Farmers was one of the best companies, but considered my home to be in a fire area (no other company did). I always keep my cars and home with the same company, so Farmers was out.
I eventually went with AAA (a non-profit company) and they insured everything except our diesel pusher we bought a few years later. I insured the DP with Progressive who was good for a few years and then about two years ago they went through the roof in many places around the country.
I checked with AAA and they were now insuring DP's. I now have everything with AAA and have great service!
State Farm was a good company, but in the 90's decided to get out of the car business in California. They did it by raising rates. I'll NEVER give them my business again. A few years later they realized that they had made a mistake and you saw a push in TV ads to start insuring Californians again. Too late.
A good friend once told me....the insurance companies could care less about you, so never feel bad about routinely shopping for new insurance. I now check every few years and go with the best price. So far AAA in Southern California is the cheapest for us. - darsbenExplorer III switched fro GS to State Farm. What I like about them is that you can suspend your liability insurance while the unit is sitting still. IN New York you must turn in your plates to cancel or suspend insurance. State Farm takes y word that I will not be driving unit for whatever period of time and my rate drops to almost zero.
SO in the summer the Motor home liability insurance is suspended and in the winter my auto insurance is suspended. Big savings for me.
I also like the agent system. In Arizona a rental car company was trying to bully me into taking their insurance by asking to see my automobile insurance card. Saw a State Farm agent sign very close to the place I was and walked in and was given an insurance card on the spot. End of rental car BS - okgcExplorerAnother State Farm devoted customer here.
FWIW,,,For the last few years a family member bragged how great a deal he had with MH insurance (full coverage policy) from another company. Well last winter the roof of a storage barn collapsed from snow load on his MH and now his GREAT deal insurance company wont repair the MH roof. THINK before you choose a policy.
Note: Michigan law exempts storage facility owner from this liability. - et2ExplorerSwitched to State Farm a few years ago. When we bought our MH they gave us the best rate. Others were double what we are paying. State Farm will even reduce your rates if you take off collision in the winter. I don't think that is wise, so we just keep it full coverage all year.
- obgrahamExplorerState Farm for 35 years. Periodically I go out and look for another company's "save me some cash" rates and never find anyone lower.
15 years ago I ran up a guy's rear end (well, his car's!), SF handled everything very well, fixed my car and his, including when he fraudulently sued me after that incident. If I recall, my rates went up about 20% for three years.
I'll stay with them, thank you. - smlrangerExplorerCount me in as another satisfied State Farm customer. I've had them since 1967 and they have always responded quickly, settle claims fairly and not gouged me on rates. Every so often I check with others that advertise but they always quote a higher price for my auto or RV coverage.
- rk911ExplorerI've been with state farm since 1966 when I got my first driver's license. that says it all.
- bigd9ExplorerWe have had State Farm since the early 70's and have everything insured with them. We also had our last diesel pusher insured with them when it caught on fire and burnt to the ground. State Farm stepped up to the plate and we settled on the actual coach within one week, and the contents within a year. Contents take a long time because you need to list every pen and pencil and their cost and age. That task is harder than you think. Its been 4 years since we lost our coach, and we are still finding things we forgot to list and get paid for.
Our new to us coach is now insured with State Farm and at favorable rate compared to others with like coaches.
