Charging House Batteries

On my old motorhome (1996 Damon Ultrasport) it does not charge the house batteries when the generator runs. Is this typical of most RVs?

Will me new to me 2006 Damon charge the batteries when the generator runs?

I never understood why it did not in my old RV. I use to keep a charger with me and plug it into a wall outlet whenever the gen was running.

  • It should. The genset should supply power to the converter or to the inverter/charger depending on which you have.
  • You converter or inverter/charger certainly should charge your HOUSE batteries.

Do you mean it does not charge the CHASSIS batteries?

120 VAC, whether from shore power or generator should power your converter or inverter/charger to charge the house batteries.

On many coaches, the chassis batteries are not charged by the converter or inverter/charger.

Two common methods of keeping the chassis batteries charged are a small additional smart charger or a battery combiner such as a Xantrex Echo charger.
