Chevy Vortec vs Ford V10

I'm looking at a 2001 Coachman Mirada which came with both the Vortec 8.1 and the Ford V10.

Which one is better for gas mileage, power, and reliability?
  • Snowdance has all the good info on the Chevy and to add some more to the discussion there is this.

    Chevy VS Ford

    Or This

    Chevy Based Class C

As you can see I own a Chevy But have always been a Ford man till now.

But this may all seem moot because you are asking about a class a when all the replies, includeing mine, focus on the Class C
  • LOL--a very volatile subject. Obviously snowdance is a Chevy guy as this is all opinion. The market dictates what is used. Test drive them both and compare what you like and what you don't. You can see posts that show their really is NO difference in mileage. Are both floor plans the same? Color schemes? Have fun.

Ditto on the mileage. Lots of threads over the years about "what are you getting for gas mileage and what engine". From all the posts I've read they are about the same. Albeit it looks like Ford gets one more mile per gallon, but there are soooo many variables regarding options, towing and how a person drives.

Across the board though and from my experience is if you keep it at a constant 55 you will net many more mpg's.

  • What a great subject to start a big fight with.. Grin.. Chevy gets the best fuel milage. Has more foot room and you should hear very little if any engine noise. Also handle and ride better if you like a softer ride.

Ford is geared lower. Turns more revs so more engine noise. Has a Firm ride. Has handling problems but can be fixed if it has not. There are lots of post on this site on the subject.

The main reason you see fewer Chevys is they Cost $1500 to $3500 more than Fords and most RVs are built on spec not custom order. So building on a Ford is just good business.. Many companys listed the Chevys in with the extra,s.

Which is better.... The one you like..
